HLT31215 Certificate III in Basic Health Care

Information about the course:

This qualification reflects the role of first aid or medical response workers who provide basic health care services including emergency first aid and sometimes transport services in the pre-hospital/out-of hospital environment.

The qualification applies to people who provide a first response in workplaces such as industrial sites, first aid organisations and the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Target audience:

People who are currently employed in, or seeking employment in the following roles:

  • Community based first responder
  • Volunteer first aider
  • Emergency medical responder
  • EMS first responder
  • Workplace first responder


There are no prerequisites for this course.

Award Issued:

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the qualification:
  • HLT31215 Certificate III in Basic Health Care

Course duration:

  • Full course:  Face to face training
  • Mixed mode delivery: Distance mode (13 units) plus face-to-face training 

**Mixed mode delivery: To ensure currency of learning, participants will have a maximum of 2 years from the date of enrolment to complete their qualification. If participants need more time to complete assessments, they must request an extension in writing.

Mixed mode delivery - important information:

For those students undertaking this study by distance, the student learning resources are sent in stages. The first three units will be sent to you upon enrolment. Following successful completion and submission of each unit we will send the next learning resource. 

The volume of learning is a term that is used to estimate how much work there is in completing this course. It is a comprehensive course and you must ensure that you have the capacity to complete prior to enrolling into this course.

Each distance unit will require evidence from a 3rd party at your workplace verifying that you are able to demonstrate the associated tasks in the workplace. This person must be in a position to observe you completing tasks, such as a supervisor or team leader. Each assessment will include a 3rd party report form for this evidence to be completed, please ensure you have access to someone who is able to complete this aspect prior to enrolling into this course
